The "Salento" area is the southern part of the Italian region of Apulia. With the Ionian Sea in the west and the Adriatic Sea in the east this area forms the heel of the Italian boot, with the provinces of Lecce, Taranto and a part of Brindisi.
The Salento Peninsula (formerly called "Messapia", the land between two seas), possessing a fantastic coastline. White limestone cliffs that plunge straight into the sea, amazing rock formations, mysterious caves and grottoes and fantastic, fine-sand beaches form the Adriatic coast of the peninsula.
Along the coast there are small fishing villages, medieval towns and lively seaside resorts. In the countryside, small villages are located in the green, with centuries-old olive groves, tobacco plantations and vineyards. The "Salento" is one of the poles of the Apulian Tourism: Otranto, the most eastern city in Italy, the ancient city of Gallipoli, Castro with the Zinzulusa Cave, Porto Cesareo, Leuca and Lecce with its typical Baroque are the pearls of this part of Puglia.
All this makes this area a great destination for lovers of nature, culture and relaxation in nature, and on sunny beaches with crystal clear water.
